I'm getting the geforce 8800gtx and will a physics card boost any performance at all? I don't expect any fps gains but supposedly the physics card offsets the load off of the processor and gpu, so all around it will run faster and smoother?
And which PPU is the one to get, the Asus or the BFG, both 128-mb or is there a better one?
BTW, I'll be running a 6800 conroe dual-core with 4 gb corsair dominators.
Welcome to Sharkys!:) Until more software supports Phyx, it is just a waste of money. (there's only 1-2 games which use this) It isn't worth the little performance advantage for the price you pay. In fact it can decrease performence in some instances. I think PhysX will die...imho. With those specs, I would wait for PhysX to become more mainstream/useful since you system will scream anyway.:D

I think Ageia had a shot, but I think if its not gone that its almost completely faded.
Seems to me that if you're a small company with a great product that you need to really push it to the mainstream so that when the big boys catch up you are in the pole position.
I don't think that Ageia has done this.
Still waiting for that "killer" app.
8800GTX is a killer card! you don't need no stinkin' PhysX card to go with it!! :D
nvidia and ati both do physics processing...it'll be a long time before either physx or video card physics are common in games
My GTX can handle any Physx tasks with ease, no need for a additional card for now :P..

it has a 128 megs of ram devoted to physics calculations. But this isnt like ageia, its strictly for havok based games i believe. This just helps remove the strain from the cpu, thus allowing a smoother framerate in the end.Quote:
