Is there even a version of Ubuntu for whichever ARM processor your Android device has?
I think I read somewhere that they're working on a Ubuntu phone. Anyone heard that?
Why would anyone want Ubuntu on a phone? If you need a Linux phone Android is already very good, and Canonical has shown repeatedly that it takes them ages to get the UI of their OS right. It's not like there would be any software compatibility at all between desktop Ubuntu and phone Ubuntu.
Perhaps. However, Ubuntu allows one to install Windows software that the android system does not. If android ran windows installation files, I'd be happier as I'm finding many of the productivity apps for android are not to my liking. Like I said, the OS that has the most desirability (IMO) is Windows, Linux systems, MAC. I don't think android really taps into that market yet. IF the Ubuntu for the tablets work like the desktop platform, then I see that being the next most popular OS for tablets.
Desktop software does not work well on a Tablet. Remember when Microsoft tried to push Windows tablets a few years ago? They were awful because the software was simply not designed with touch in mind. The same would be true for a tablet running OSX or desktop linux.
Wait, wait, wait…you are trying to install Ubuntu on Android as some kind of VM or you are trying to install Ubuntu on an ARM device?
I know Debian has been working on an ARM port for a while: http://www.debian.org/ports/arm/
Let me tell you what I'm doing:
I have the ASUS EEE Transformer TFT 101 with the 9.2.1.24 build. Everything is the latest (firmware etc).
I don't like the android. So what I'm trying to do is run a dual boot kind of thing like I have on my desktop. On my desktop I can boot in Ubuntu. I want that functionality on my tablet as well. I'd like to not be restricted to the android OS. I want to use Ubuntu to utilize windows software. I have the dock for the transformer so I can use my tablet like a notebook.
sounds like you need to sell the android tablet and get a legit win7 tablet or wait for win8
heres a better solution. but with a catch.
just setup a windows pc at home runing some kind of remote access software server (ex. RDP, TeamViewer etcc)
and get the andriod client for it. get a bluetooth keyboard for your tablet.
whhaa la. you have full desktop usability.
or mabye a tablet is not for you. how about a ultra portable laptop? or nerdbook?
I was quite impressed by the Asus Tablet 600 (other than the puny 1366x768 resolution)
