Hi everyone.
I told a friend of mine that I could attempt a $600 budget gaming build for him (micro atx), but that it would be a challenge since he needs all IO + a monitor. He'd like a cheap headset and cheap speakers, which in the end will only be $30, but it is a lot for the $600 budget.
Anyway I started out rather ambitious, thinking I could keep a monitor with 1080 capabilities, and maybe even an AMD-FX cpu.
I've done some downgrading on multiple areas, but I'm at $730 post shipping, before we shrink the monitor and processor.
This is a tough build at this price, but not impossible. I'm just not quite sure where I should make the sacrifices for a gaming rig. Can I chop the processor down by $60? Is that a good idea? Is the GPU selection way overkill for this budget?
I'm trying to keep the pipedream HD monitor going but...yeah :(
Also I'm pretty sleepy so I didn't pay much attention to RAM selection.
I figure going to cheapest keyboard / mouse will lose ~$20. Dropping speakers or headset another $10-15. Maybe another $40-50 off on the monitor downgrade. Cheaper ram and power supply should take another ~$20-30 off. If we shed $100 before downgrading processor and GPU, then we're in good shape. In fact, a small GPU downgrade may not be a bad trade off if we can keep the potential of an HD monitor alive.
