I was happy to see AMD pack Dirt Showdown into graphics cards, which meant I could pick up a code really cheap on a tech forum. I got the game for 15 bucks recently and played a little over half way through. I can't believe how barebones it is. The "campaign" is split into 4 tiers. Each tier has ~15 events that must be completed before doing a final event to finish the tier. That's it.
As you go you get money and cars unlock, but they cost so much that I stuck with the same car in each class and just upgraded them. I put about 3 hours in to get about 65% of the way through the game.
I was hoping for something like the old destruction derby games, but it ended up just being random race after random race. There is no story, no career, no real advancement, and the unlocks are pretty much useless since everything costs so much and is only marginally better.
Skip this game entirely. Flat Out offers more customization and a much better career than this joke of a game. It sucks to see Codemasters cash in on the Dirt name.
PS the Dirt engine is looking really tired.
