I have a Dell P3 500 w/512k cache and i'm told the board will support up to a 850 w/256k cache w/pc100 ram. It is a slot type board. My question is other than just the swaping of the chips is there ANYTHING else i have to do?
Thanks for any help!

Well, you have to get a Slotket if you are going to use an fc-pga processor https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/08/2.gifQuote:

Likely you will need to contact Dell to find out what motherboard settings will have to be changed. If you are lucky, it will be in the BIOS. If not, take a close look at the labels on the motherboard. Often the jumper settings for FSB and Bus Frequency will be printed there.
Make sure that you get the 100mhz bus version of the PIII, as it will be easier than trying to make the 133mhz version work.
Well, I totally agree with Warin. Just wanted to add that you'll propably have to flash your BIOS to update it.
Yours could be a little to old (500 to 850 is quite a jump) and won't recognize properly the CPU.
Don't forget to ask Dell about that.
