The first card who implemented 3d acceleration was the Voodoo1. This was the first card who used the memory for texture mapping. For the history Voodoo1 had 4MB RAM, 2MB buffer memory and 2MB for textures.
In fact, S3's first 3D accelerator was the S3Savage. Crappy thing IMO.
