Connection speeds are measured in "bits," and download speeds are measured in "bytes." Don't ask me why, it's just the way it is! hehehe.
One byte = 8 bits.
So take your 56K and divide it by 8, and that's your top download speed.
GO here: http://www.computingcentral.com/topi...eedtest500.asp
test your bandwidth, it'll give you a read on connection speed, and top download speed for you connection at that given moment. Right now, mine reads:
Your line speed:
1069.5 Kbps
131.1 K bytes/sec
Awwwww yeah! https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/4.gif
yes, and also 56k usually only connects at 50k, or 52k, almost never 56k...

One of these days I'll have to come up with a real signature...
Actually the most I ever see is 45.2 http://dev.www.sharkyforums.forums.relay.cool/
yeah thank for that ..
and the 48 it alwyas connect it
never downloads at full potential.. .
Actually because of the FCC, it is technically impossible for any modem to connect over analog phone lines in the US faster than 53Kbps.
Thanks, Uncle Sam!
5Kb is the maximum your gunna get out of that modem https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif trust me...it's slow compared to all you guys with ADSL & cable http://dev.www.sharkyforums.forums.relay.cool/
