All I can do is just... drool...
*puts on flame suit*
Bah, I'm waiting for the HD7990!!!;)
I just took a look and it's fast but not the 7970 killer that the first articles seemed to indicate. Crossfired 7970's are faster in some cases and slower in other's. I'm assuming the 7990 will be about the same speed as the crossfire setup. I'm not sure what situations this will affect but why does AMD stomp Nvidia in compute?
HardOCP and others have said the FPS of the 7970's is not the entire story. Supposedly, although the SLI 680 are slower fps-wise, they are actually smoother and have less hitching. This is because the 680's feature both better sli driver support and because they have a hardware frame synchronizer that eliminates micro stuttering and provides smoother gameplay. HardOCP went as far as saying the 7970 crossfire is broken for people that want to play all modern games.
Nice piece of hardware.
Of course, no games even push the pair of 5870's I have, so hard to say what the point is...
5870's are still great cards. It really depends on the resolution. I have a 120hz display now, so 60fps is no longer the target. BF3 totally maxed runs at around 60-70 fps. What I like most about the card is the efficiency. Ridiculous performance at a 225W TDP. :D
