hey, ill be coming to the US soon, are there any good GSM cell phone service providers which are prepaid?...how much do they charge for international sms sending?..what incoming calls?..are they free?..ill be getting the 7210 nokia phone soon, which can work in the states as well
I hated Verzon. They were the first service I had years ago "LA MOBILE" and were terrible. But Verizon is just a collection of regionals that were swallowed up, so some places they are good, others they're lousy. Same thing with Cingular. PacBell was good out here in LA, so Cingular worked pretty well.Quote:

But I travel a lot, and Cingular is worthless in Kansas City, Atlanta, and especially in the backwoods of Arkansas.
So now I use AT&T. Not great, but I always have signal. In many places it's analog, but that's better than no signal.
I am in South Carolina and have SunCom wich is a division of AT&T and they have the best plan. no prolem with coverage and my plan is unlimited minutes to anywhere in the USA as long as I am withing my 4 county calling area (which I always am) but if I do decide to go on a trip I have 300 "just in case" minutes to use outside the area and no roaming. I love not having to watch minutes
Why aren't people including Nextel? I live 55 miles southwest of Chicago but Im still within the Local Chicagoland Plan. Service and reception is perfect everywhere (and I travel alot). The unlimited direct connect option is great(it is even nationwide now). And the phones they offer are pretty nice (although they are expensive because they cost alot more to make). I give NEXTEL an A++.
I have Verizon for quite a while now. They are very good.
all i ever had was voicestream which turned to t-mobile...its pretty good and im not complaining since my mom's paying the family plan bill:D
Standard wise T-mobile is the best. They use dual-band GSM, I think. Their wireless internet thingy via GPRS is also a plus... and best selection of phones from what I saw at the store yesterday.
Can't beat a Samsung S300 or S105.
They and all the US carriers use 1900mhz gsm, they are going to roll out 850mhz soon. In Europe they use dual-band.Quote:

I have Sprint PCS w/ Vision, and it is horrible compared to my girlfreinds Verizon (Ohio area). Her phone almost never drops calls, whereas mine does frequently..Not due ot an error with my Samsung A500 either, since I had it replaced. My parents' phone also drop calls like a banshee up in the Detroit area.
I have never had a billing problem w/ Sprint, but their customer service is a joke. I called 3 times in a span of 30 minutes to find out how I was supposed to receive my bonus for referring a freind, and I received 3 completely different answers (and of course NONE of them worked). Gime a break. Do yourself a favor...don't get Sprint if you live in OH or MI. (I know my ID says NY...I am moving there in 2 days!).
At&t and Cingular are the other two. No once 850mhz is rolled out it wont kill 1900mhz. I read somewhere (I forgot where) that T-mobile is staying with 1900mhz. Also I know motto is coming out will quad band phones, they will work with 1900, 900, 1800 and 850mhz systems, and I am sure that other cell phone makers will do the same.Quote:

I have had Verizon for years now. I been up and down the east coast with it and it's never let me down.
PS i won't give up my original StarTac :D
Have any of you heard of a small company called Nextel? They have the best service ever. Plus phones with a walkie talkie built in. Never had a single problem with them as of yet and I have been using their service for over a year and a half.
I hear great things about them, a friend of mine raves about the service and direct connect. I would love to get it but they charge a lot per month, I would have to pay 70 a month. I don't have 70, but I am really happy with T-Mobile. One day heheheQuote:
