Optical Mice, Passwords, and Freezes (oh my!)
Hmmm. Sharky's gave the Intellimouse Explorer product a good reveiw. Well, it is great for desktop apps. and is really comfortable, and has a neat glow too it to (oooooo, shiny....). BUT, in any game that requires quick movement (or just moving the mouse quick on desktops), this mouses spazes out. in Unreal Tournament I've been killed by plenty o bot due to to the mouse cursour going all over the place only to return to a position near to that of where it started (not to mention being new to the game https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif. Is this just my mouse or what? If it's not is there a fix for it? I await your wisdom.
Additionally, I'm running a refurb (by CompUSA) HP 8655c that despite 20 + calls to tech support being told by 2 or so dail a tech guys to call the guys who do the 2 year silver TAP onsite parts and labor warranty to get replacement hardware, and much frustration, i have yet to have a properly working computer. The TAP guys keep giving me the run around. Since I've had my conputer, it would crash after using Internet Explorer after a breif time. No blue screens o death, not Windows errors, not even a system beep would occur if I hit alt cntrl del for two eons. I added more ram. same problem. I defragged, I disabled MacAfee Virus programs (hell, i even uninstalled it to see). i turned off graphics hardware acceleration, and i got the latest drivers for all my components. I've done everything short of a reformat. SInce the system was newly reformatted when it had the problem, however, I think that's BS. What really pissed me off was that I was told to try "one more thing", tried it, called back, got some new idiot who said to reformat (which ins't a horrible idea) and to switch isps. He specifically said to try one of the AOL free trials or other big name. After discussing the issue with some of my A+ and N+ certified friends, I was told the guy was a idiot. I have no problem using a Dell on the same phone line with the same ISP. My HP has a 533 MHZ P3, 128 MB sdram (after i put in 64 more), a motherboard with a built in i810e chipset for really lame graphics, a voodoo 2 that i put in, a Roland or Chameleon (both the names come up with the factory drivers) soundcard/modem card that shares a single IRQ, an old 10MBper second ethernet card i put in a few weeks ago, a 20 gig harddrive, a cdrw, and a cdrom. Based on logic and trial and error, I've concluded that since my system freezes when using IE 5.5 (on or offline) or when I'm running winamp or anything with sound (Unreal Tournament), that it is most likely the combo sound modem card, my mobo, or maybe even the original stick of RAM. I've though it might be the hard drive, but that didn't seem practicle. I would appreciate any advice on any of the topics, especially how to fix the mouse and how to get my money's worth from the warranty. I await your wisdom. Forget the pass word part... i finally figured it out.
