If the system is stable etc I would'nt bother upgrading the BIOS.
Doing BIOS changes is a slightly risky business especially it seems with Nforce2 MBs.

see if the cdrom is actually in the device manager- If it is it may have a red cross on it. If it has right click on it and remove the device and then reboot. This should make it reappear.

Can only say that a 120mm fan fits under the drive bay in my sons case just right- don't even need to attach it to anything.
