You're likely just experiencing normal background chatter (traffic). If you're curious, though, these tools should lead you to the information you seek:

I've seen a rig with Windows XP and 128MB RAM-it was sloooow! After the customer added another 128MB, it ran quite a bit faster. I would recommend at least 256MB for you.

The NForce2 chipset does seem picky about memory. I had trouble using two sticks of Corsair PC3200 in the Asus NForce2 board (sent the board back for a Gigabyte KT400). I also had trouble with two...

Yeah, if you go with the Sun, you will most likely need to buy a 13W3 to VGA converter, which could add about $50 to the price.

No guarantees, but you could try BadCopyPro (http://www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/) or IsoBuster (http://www.isobuster.com/) or CDDataRescue (http://www.naltech.com/) to attempt reading past the CRC...

Thanks for the firmware link; I haven't seen any new official updates on the LiteOn site for a long time.

It's good, but it works by brute force-it's quite large and it has a noisy fan on it. In my Gigabyte KT400 rig, I have a Volcano 7+ on an Athlon 2400+. Sandra reports my idle CPU temp at 39C (with...

Yeah, ua549 and/or MarcDaddy are at the top of the list. Many people here change their rigs so often, I imagine the "best" PC would be hard to pin down.

While the beep codes will vary somewhat between different BIOS (Award, AMI, Phoenix, etc.), I think 1 repeating beep typically signals a memory problem. Can you switch out your RAM to see if that...
