HD noise is related to rpm. I've never found a 7200rpm one too loud though.

Yep. If I had to guess, I'd guess the power supply. I had a generic 350W psu die at the hand of my aiw 9700.

Every image quality enhancement has an associated performance hit. Thats just a fact of life. The real question is - is it worth the hit? For AA and AF it most certainly is.
