    Custom ram cooler.

    My idea consists of this:

Two pieces of copper piping cut to match just shy of the length of my RAM.

I'm going to buy some TT passive ramsinks and solder them to it, then get some reasonably thick wiring (thick enough so it won't move with high CFM fans) and place dual 40CFM Y.S. Tech 60mm's on each side, about 1" from the RAM, likely with an angle on them.

I'm also thinking of adding a special outside intake from my case to pair with it, so it's all cold air.

    Thoughts?

well soldering the pipe to the sink will be the hardest part, you'll need something to hold it 2 pieces together so they don't move and a big soldering iron to put the heat to it. also have to leave room for the heatspreader clips
If your sig is longer than your post then type more.

I didn't even think of the clips, but I suppose I can always cut the clips short, and/or make sure that the piping make sure that the piping's not too high.

The reason I'll be using two pieces is so that I can have one on each side (not two pieces to a side) however, I'm thinking of cutting a hole in the center of each piece to allow air to flow through the copper piping with more ease.

I'll post results once I'm done and I'll keep this thread updated as I go.

But aluminum is terrible for sawdering, it is hard, trust me, I do that stuff (yes I'm only 15, but I do gotta make my living, kinda)

by the way, great plan, but get copper ram sinks also, what is a good job to do, other then contract work? for a fifteen year old in Canada?

You do know that you can get copper solder, AFAIK, right?
It is what I intended to do. Plus, the ramsinks will be TT passive ramsinks, which I'm nearly positive are copper as well.

My goal is to increase air flow over the ram by going giving it aprox 5x more air-flow and a larger surface area, by adding the copper piping, not to mention increasing air-flow through the heatsink itself by cutting a hole in the center of each 60mm, so the air can get in easily.

So far, I can't see any logic or physic flaws in my plan. I'll just have to see how it performs, I guess.

15 and just soldering? I'm 15 here in New Jersey, and for work I weld, machine, repair cars, and modify anything I can get money or satisfaction out of. BTW: It took a RELLY long time to figure what "sawdering" meant!

I don't think that you will get any hold at all if you use regular soler. At some of the car shows I go to like Carlisle in PA, there are people selling special alloy rods for high-temp aluminum soldering that work extremely well.

If can get a hold of an oxy-acetlyene setup you might be able to braze the pieces together, but it would probably be overkill.

They're aluminum, I have, and I'm willing to give em to ya, I don't use em, they're just collecting dust.

I work with printed circuit boards. If I weld that, where would the plastic be?

Well, that is sweet, honest, but, what are your working conditions, pay? or is it for school?

As for spelling, sorry about that. <b>"RELLY"<b/>

That'd be ill, if you could hook me up with some TT ramsinks.

Just got pretty much everything aside from my new RAM and TT ramsinks. New RAM comes tomorrow and TT ramsinks should come this week.

    Parts I all ready have:

    1. Liquid Solder (I figured it'll work best since I'm using aluminum ramsinks with copper piping)
    2. 1/2" wide copper pipe (2' of it)
    3. 2 and 1/2' of copper wire (solid wire, not the "I'm hooking up my stereo" stuff)
    4. 2 Y.S. Tech highspeed 60mm's (40CFM)
    5. Pipe cutter
    6. Metal cut-off wheel dremel fitting with holder.

I should be done with this project pretty soon.
