Installing an OS on a new notebook...?

I bought a new centrino notebook (not here yet) without an OS pre-installed because I got Windows XP Pro for $6 from my campus compu-store. Do you just go to setup, set 1st boot device to CD-ROM, pop the Windows disk in, reboot, and just follow the onscreen intructions?

Yep, that's pretty much it. And when you're done installing the OS, you'll want to download and install the latest drivers for your laptop's hardware.

I've seen a few places online where you can buy notebooks without OSes.
    Desktop: Intel D845EBG2 | P4 2.2 GHz | 512 MB PC2100 | GeForce 4 Ti 4400 | SB Audigy 1 | WD 120GB 7200 RPM | Sony 16x DVD-ROM | Lite-On 40x12x48x CD-RW drive | Antec True 480W PSU | Viewsonic G90fb | Creative Inspire 5200 5.1 | Windows XP

I got an Asus M3000N from www.rjtech.com and it lets you choose if you want any OS installed and/or softwares like MS office...etc. The main reason I got the Asus M3000N is because I like the look of it and it's slimmer than most 14" centrino notebooks offered by Dell, Gateway, Sony...etc. Only down side is that it's got integrated graphics. But I guess that means that I won't be able to play games I like (or likely to get addicted to) which is good cause this laptop is suppose to be for "education."

My Prostar came blank. Why should I buy a new OS from them for $160+ when I can get it for a lot less.
