Help Please: Capturing in game footage

    Greetings-

I am looking for a little help with capturing video games so I can make movies- specifically, I want to capture EverQuest. I tried using FRAPS, but when I view the movies, they are all fuzzy with lines going through them; in essence, totally un-watchable. So, FRAPS is out.

My next thought is can I capture video directly to my Sony TRV-38 Camcorder? I have a Radeon 9700Pro Video card. It does not have Video out as far as I know, but there is a plug on it for an S Video Cable (the black one with many prongs, not the red, yellow and white cable). Is that port for video in or out. I assume video in- which would do me no good. I was hoping to capture directly to the camera as to prevent the associated slow down that occurs when you capture to a hard drive.

Based on the above, do I need to buy a new video capture card? Can someone recommend one? Will a capture card allow me to send the video directly to my Camcorder? How does the card exist/interface with my 9700Pro? I assume the 9700P is still used to draw the games, but how does the video then get sent to the capture card?

Apologies for the rambling, and thank you.

That plug is for video out It works quite good when set to S-Video. At least on my 9600 Pro. You have many settings for it in your display driver. You would want to mirror the screen to the S-Video out. Let me know if you want it explained in more detail. I'll write something for you tonight in that case

Edit: Tonight Central European Time that is, ie in a couple of hours.

Video out eh? That's a start I'll play around with the settings tonight- after I stop at Radio Shack and get an S-Video cable. Looking forward to anything you do write up.

    Many thanks Jonas79.

I just had a look at the settings and just remembered that I have to have something connected to the S-Video out to be able to change the display settings and I'm too lazy right now to move my comp to the living room right now

Well, the settings are under the tab "Displays" in the advanced display settings. There you can choose to change settings for TV (ie video out). Make sure you choose S-Video out and not Composite out (which is also an option) since the quality of composite is terrible. I don't remember exactly where to set that though

    Good luck anyway
