If I had to add onto this thing I really would add Halo and Wind Waker. Plus many more.

Also, I actually had a chance to play Tomb Raider 1 like 10 minutes ago. All I can say the game is extremely difficult to control properly, is very slow and is boring. At best it was an "alright" game in 1996. The whole feel of "adventure" and "Indiana Jones" has to come from nostolgic memory.

Wind Waker wasn't really overrated. Sold a lot based on name, sure, but it was never a smash critical success, and I don't recall too much hype being put on it for GotY considerations. Of course, I'm too lazy to look that up, and someone will probably come along and post links to like twenty awards that it won.

As far as the OP - The first Syphon Filter and Tomb Raider games were good, and the second TR was pretty good, too. After that, both series went downhill, and I think they hype and talk surrounding the games reflects that. Most people I talk to haven't even heard of Syphon Filter, and TR: Legend was the first game in that series in a long time that had any sort of good press after it came out.

I'll throw the MGS series in as overrated. They're pretty good, but I don't think they're anywhere as good as people make them out to be.

    Ahh...

The original Metal Gear for NES. That game ruled...

To the original poster, I would be curious, with all of the hatred being sent to the "overrated" games, which games would you consider to be "rated just right"?

    Crusader for the 64-bit Era.

Yes, I would very well ike to know your taste in games too. I'm guessing he's an RTS player or a very hardcore RPG player.

The Sims ? Its a very original game. Why do you consider it mindless. The game opens up a lot of creativity and had a huge modding community back in Sims 1. Their getting better at modding Sim 2 right now. It expanded gameplay in large ways on many areas with its many expansion packs. It wasn't even more of the same.

I disagree with Xenogears and EQ. Two games I enjoyed highly, and not because some reviewer told me to like it, or because it was the thing to play. In fact, I don't even think I read a review on Xenogears when I made the purchase. It was one of the gifts I got for Christmas from my parents. And seriously, there's not even that many anime scenes in the game to really justify that as a selling point. The ones they do have, they're all pretty short.

Probaly the biggest selling point for me was the music in Xenogears. I've been a musician for most of my life, so it's not just the graphics and gameplay that tilt my opinion. Music is probaly the main reason I play RPG games... followed closely by gameplay.

But yeah, I realize this is all opinionated. If I was to add to the list, I'd add Halo.
