Java - best books and online tutorials??
Hey All,
I am relatively inexperienced in Java. I have been learning it at Uni for 2 months. Haven't really done all that much!
I wanted to know where the best places online are for tutorials.
Also what Java book do you recommend?
I was recommended Java: How to Program by Deitel and Deitel. What do you think of this book? Is it any good?
Cheers

I can't say about that particular book, but I had a C++ book from Deitel and Deitel, and I thought that it was fairly decent. Check your university library to see if they have it on their shelves and take a gander at it. Those books get expensive, and fast...

"Thinking In Java" by Bruce Eckel is an excellent book. It's very detailed, yet an easy read.

the Deitel and Deitel Java book is pretty good. I still use it as a reference.

I've found the 3rd edition of the Deitel and Deitel book extremely useful....It guides you from the basics of Java to database connectivity to GUI interface programing. I love it and it help me a hell of a lot during a Software Engineering class I took a year ago. It's definitely one of the best books on the market today.....

Man, now it looks like I should probably purchase one... Blast it! I hate seeing stuff that I probably should spend money on instead of looking at cars that I would love to own...
