Data transfer rate 60 MBps means what?
What does 60MBps mean? 60 Mega bytes per second?
I found a review for the hard drive it said it moves 8.8MB per second so how long would it take to move 600MB......68 seconds?
I suck at math not sure how to figure that out lol

8.8mb per second?
thats one shitty hardrive, if its bit OR byte. hardrives can substain 35mbyte/sec nowdays.
-
I don't know maybe the review is wrong.
the specs on the drive say Data transfer rate of 60 MBps whatever that means.

dunno what that would be. its not the burst, its not the substained speed, and its not an ATA.

what kind of hard drive was this and where did you read the review.
and is it MBps or Mbps?
If I remember correctly MBps is MegaByte/Sec while Mbps is MegaBit/sec.
hmm.... you must have posted the link at the same time I made my post.

480 / 8 = 60
That's where they are getting that number from. It is still an IDE hard drive.

It's rated at 60 Meba Bytes per second. That speed is based on the fact that it is a USB 2.0 drive. USB 2.0 is 480Mb/sec, which translates to 60MB/sec. However, keep in mind that this is the bandwidth of the connection, not how fast the sustained transfer rates will be. You will be able to burst data at up to 60MB/sec, but sustained transfer rates will likely be closer to 25-30MB/sec.

So how long will it take to move 600MB of files?

CNET says The Maxtor 3000LE posted an average copying speed of 8.8MB per second.
Is Maxtor very good? I used to have a SCSI Iomeag Jazz drive it was fast wish i could find something else that fast that would last but it only lasted a month plus the 2GB disk are over $175 each!!

its external? jeeze, why didnt you say so!

sorry thought i did

Mbps = Megabits per second
MBps = MegaBytes per second
mbps = No one knows...you are an idiot if you express a speed like this
MBPS = read above
This is the 100% real way to tell what it means and if someone confuses this they should get slapped expecailly if they know the difference. I admit this gh3y but its what we got stuck with for now to distinguish Byte from Bit.

your reflection
i just spell it out "mbyte" or "mbit". so much easier and saves the confusion.
