Glueing is hard

Ok... now I've built an arcade cabinet, not the best but it stands up, and I can assemble my own computer. BUT when trying to do a simple stealth CD mod (my first "mod" per say) I turn into some drooling pre-schooler with screws and panels stuck to my fingers and plastic super glued to my carpet.

It came out working in the end, but I have like super glue marks all over the panel, and naturally the panel is some weird Enermax case that has 4 parts TO EACH panel, and i'm not likely to find it in some mom and pop store.

Theres no real point to this post, other than i thought you guys might like the mental image of a front bezel glued to my hand which in turn is glued to my hair.

I know how you feel. When I first started using a Dremel I figured that it would be no problem. After ruining a case or two and cutting my fingers to ribbons, I re-thought my plan of attack. It's ok...it happens to us all. Practice makes perfect.

I'm just getting started tinkering with my system, and your thread just brought flashbacks of my youth. I've been there when I used to attempt at building models. Model glue all over the place, then your nose starts to itch, and it's all over.



I still burn the crap out of myself with a soldering iron, so don't feel bad.

I dont find glueing that hard. I do purchase the Super Glue Gel which does not flow like water and gets everywhere. I used to glue my fingers together accidently. I dont know what is in Super Glue but when skin is involved, Instant Drying.

I dont burn myself with the soldering iron anymore. I had this really bad burn from it once when I was a teen. NEVER and I do mean NEVER try and catch a falling soldering iron. I did and caught it by the heat element. I had a blister across my entire hand. It was nasty and hurt like a *****.

I dont really do any case mods as of yet, but I have done plenty of woodwork and I have used a scrolling saw, jigsaw, circular saw and all the many other types of tools to build things.

I even built my own fullsize balanced pool table. Now that was a pain!
It had taken me about 2 years to build it. I sold it in the end since I replaced the dinning room table with it and the wife didnt like that. I had even built a series of ramps so the ball would endup at the same place no matter what pock you used to sink the ball. Instead of the cheap leather net kind.

you stole my idea! hehehe...i just the other day was trying it for fun on a cd rom thats non functional, and lets just say it didnt work out too well i suppose it just takes time, and practice(did i mention pateince? )

I try to stay away from super glue as much as possible. No matter how careful you are, you will get it on your fingers.

As for soldering iron adventures, I was fixing the backlight cable on a Compaq laptop, splicing 28 gauge wire. I was soldering it together with anothner guy who had never used a soldering iron before. It was resting on the bench when I asked for him to hand it to me, guess what, he grabbed it by the heating element! He had a good long swearing session about not telling him it was hot.

That's gotta hurt

My best story has to be when I was doing some sawing for my project and slipped - I cut my thumb in half (through the centre of the nail) and went through some bone - now that HURT It was a rip saw to!

I've never really had a problem with glue (thankfully)

My only real bad problem with glue was when I built a remote control airplane when I was like 13. It was sweet .40cc engine, Futaba 6 channel controller...anyway..

You had to glue a BUTT load of balsa wood together, then iron on stuff onto the wings. Well, the glue required the epoxy, and then a catalyst. I'm telling you that stuff sticks to your fingers worse than superglue, plus it burns!

Now you can buy it 90% built! Back in 1986, it was ALL DIY

I never really hurt myself real bad before. But I always had problems with super glue getting all over my hand (under the nail where the skin and nail meats).

You all have turn me away from modding. I just got the confidence to start, and you scare the sh*t out of me. Guess I'll just have to stick with pre-modded cases.lol

aww, lol dont let us ruin your fun we're all just really impatient, thus messing up our projects. Just remember all modders- patience shows in the final product of your modding.
