Try getting the latest drivers for your network card. Also try getting the latest BIOS update for your motherboard.

My problem is the same. The only lock-ups I get is when I am on the Internet. I use an external ISDN modem (USB)and whas thinking it maybe is the PSU??? I only have a 230w PSU.

Hi, I can't see why the DVD would do anything to cause lockups while on the internet.

Most likely its the cable modem. Are you using an anti-viurs program? Does the cable modem have a built-in firewall?

    Regards,

A good friend of mine had a similar problem with his DVD/IDSN setup. If he removed the DVD, the problem went away. I don't know if he ever found an alternative solution.

This just a guess; Go into the bios and assign an IRQ to VGA(if available). Then reset ESCD configuration data. I'm assuming you're using software as the decorder so the DVD uses the Vid card. Actually try this first, go into System properties, under Performance. Click on Graphics and move slider to None. Let me know what happens.

Make sure that your cable modem is not sharing IRQ with any of your other card also update the drivers for the cable modem and check for a firmware update for the DVD drive

does the mouse remain active during the lockup? or does the system completely freeze? if it is a complete freeze this probably won't help. The case that I had the dvd and the NIC were sharing one Input/Output range that only seemed to cause a problem when recieving udp traffic. I just ended up removing the NIC and installing the latest drivers and reinstalling direct x and all was good.
