    Identifying proc for this board...

    Ok, another totally newbie question:

I have a random unidentified motherboard. It has an AGP slot and firewire built in, which makes it nicer than the one i'm currently using. I have no idea how to figure out which proc goes into it, though...how would i tell?

The board is a Compaq sps-bd 1394, according to compaq's sticker, but i have no idea who originally made it. Searching for that on Compaq's website didnt produce anything useful, though some of the questions asked make me think this board will take Athlon procs up to 1 Ghz.

What would i need to buy to test this board, to see if it's dead or not? Proc, Ram, etc?

    -Dave.

Looks like 100MHz FSB Tbird Athlons, not sure about 1GHz though. You would need a processor, memory and video card at a minimum. If you can boot into the BIOS then those components probably work. Of course it's always possible that there's a problem with a PCI slot etc.

Hmmm...how would i know if i have the right proc/mem for it?

Could i just buy those, test it, and return them if they don't work?
