    installed xp, "My Computer" is gone

    please help me, new system built from scratch, installed windows xp professional, only icon on my desktop is recycle bin, any ideas?

    Right click either the start menu or the task bar. Under properties you need to change the desktop style to the old (pre XP) version. The computer I'm on isn't XP so I can't tell you exactly, but play around with it and you should figure it out.

    Its the only Icon you have(Recycle bin) after a new Install. Go to start and right click on my computer then check show on desktop.
    You will have to create shortcuts of programs you want if you want them on your desktop.

    Right click anywhere on the desktop and choose properties.
    Choose the "desktop" tab, then choose the "customize desktop" button at the lower left hand corner. From there, you can select what icons you want on your desktop.

    I dont know why they set it up to be the default like this...I guess they figured those icons aren't needed by most people??
