    BF1942 and new joystick

I must say that trying to fly the planes in this game is now much, much nicer with a joystick. Try as I may, flying planes with the keyboard or keyboard/mouse resulted in a nose dive into the ground or getting shot down as a deserter because I couldn't get turned around.

I must also say how impressed I was with the ease by which my new Microsoft Sidewinder Elite 2 set up within the game. Within the game I selected the function to set, moved the joystick, and it would set both axis functions for the same thing. Like with the rudder control I selected it, twisted the stick left to set the left rudder, and both right/left rudders were set. I figured I was going to be configuring the joystick for an hour to get right. From inserting the disk to giving the joystick a try was maybe 10 minutes.

    What a difference this made!

Yeah, a good joystick is a great in BF1942. In Desert Combat it's practically a must for flying the helicopters.

Isn't DC a free mod for this game? Do you have to have RTR to run it?

Desert Combat is a free mod. You don't have to have the RTR expansion to run it, just BF1942. Check it out www.desertcombat.com

Now Set your top "hat"switch to rear view, forward view and nose cam view and no one will sneak up on your six any longer.

A person with a joy stick and flying a "Stuka" can out dogfight a person without a joystick and flying a "Spitfire".

I prefer to use a trackball to fly, it gives me better response than a joystick (though not as immersive an experience).

Definitely check out DC, I don't particuarly like their last update, but it did add a lot of interesting things. Now if only those voice commands were shorter.

Ahhh, so that's what the Position 1, Position 2, etc. are for.

I'll definitely have to set the hat switch for that.

Also the "front looking back" view is great to use to see the bodies fly after you release your bombs.

Nah, Pos.1, 2, etc. are for switching your position within the vehicle. Like position 1 is always the driver, and then the gunner/passenger seat depends on the vehicle. Chase Rear, Chase Front, etc are your view binds

Amen to that! Their voice comms are entirely too long. Do you know if they have any plans on changing those damn things?

If that's the case, how do you set the hat to use to look around?

Well with my joystick (Sidewinder Precision 2) all I have to do is click on the bind, and then click the hat switch in the direction I want bound.

YEP! Just found out a few minutes ago.

It's been mentioned that the voices are getting redone, as well as adding the Iraqi voices.
