These laptops look rad!
But, I like to play games- I would buy a laptop for one reason- to play games and watch movies. How would these custom resolution screens do? how would I run a game that uses 1024by768 on a weird widescreen resolution?
If you run 1024x768 on a widescreen I think one of two things will happen:
Some laptop video cards will default to stretching the screen to fillup the whole screen. If it does that, then playing at 1024x768 would look really fat since you'll have less height and more width.
Another possibility is that it will scale down the image slightly and display at 1024x768 but you will have some black bars where the screen is not used.
Some games support non-standard resolutions and some can have modified configs to support whatever resolution your widescreen LCD is at. An example of a 16:9 ratio resolution would be 1280x720. The best thing with a widescreen LCD is that widescreen movies will finally play at "full screen" .
