yes, but your disk will power up a few times an hour (it seems) for folding to write data to the log file. iow, it's probably better to leave the disks on rather than have them spinning up and down all the time.
it is too about the points! j/k (well, it is partly )

Then I kill off F@H from the start up apps and the problem is gone. I resatart F@H and the problem is back. I look at the log, and it has done the first 50few steps at 4min and seconds and has been stuck on the current step for over 11 hours. I wipe it all out and get a new core, every thing is fine. I put the 3000+ back in and all seems fine. I run some diags past it and find that the chip is generating errors like mad. Heat damage I guess.
i'm beginning to think the entire FAH WU code is suspect. when i did SETI for a few months a year or so ago, it never had all these weird problems and anomolies. along with you and the others who've mentioned it, i'm seriously considering dropping folding on my computers, as i don't want to damage them by hinky FAH code. FAH seems to stress the CPU in weird, even unnatural ways (if that's possible ).

If you have not noticed we have that affect on almost every team we are getting close too. Also, I want to clarify why I have stopped folding for a while, I have just recently found out how bad the wiring is in this old place I live and the only way to fix it is to do a complete rewiring of the place or move.

Almost all of my folders are either P4s with HT or newer Xeon's and I don't have any of the problems you guys speak of.
Don't know but maybe it's mostly AMD related?

i've not had any problems like that...my only problem is it won't connect about 60% of the time recently to find a new wu until at least 4 hours later.

Of course it's not, but I hear lots of people complaining about Tinkers and even deleting them -- which is totally weak. I won't bore you with the details, but my complaint was that they need to do something to stop people from deleting Tinkers.
I've never deleted one, and please don't lecture me about folding (at least until you pass me). You've got more computers than I do, but I fold on every one I get my hands on.

All of my Intel systems fold fine, the only intel problem I have is that the backups wont run on auto. F@H wont shut down So I have a 2gig Woody and a 933 not folding on the DC's and the dual 500 Xeon is not folding, it the file server for backups, profiles and home folders. I keep all of my drive immages there too. My old 2100's don't seem to have any problems either. It's just the 3000+'s and the Hammer.

Chill guys All folders are welcome and there is no minimum output required. Some of us just don't have time to baby sit a bunch of systems. And with F@H pushing tinkers and buggy work units, the AMD systems need attention several times a day. I suppport almost 1000 systems between my two jobs, and a lot of days I just don't have time for the ones at home. Add to that all of the PITA's opening email attachments and my days are running 18/7 for the last week or so. With that said, the stuff at home is all back on cruise controll, and if folding whacks up, that system gets the plug pulled for the time being.
I would like to add that when I was thrashing seti units, I never had all of these issues. The only problem was when we used up all of the bandwidth to their servers. I could crunch seti for a month and never even bother to look at a log file.

so does anyone have any idea why just about everyday, i get this "attempting to get work packet" message for at least 4 hours most of the time before it actually gets one. I mean, the downtime is killing me here.

Yeah these tinkers are insane seems like a lot of peoples production has been cut in half since they have started pushing them out I know mine has. I personally don't care about the tinkers ,but the point system is a good way to get people to fold for whatever reason.
And even if they are folding just for points and to gain ranks on there team at least they are folding.
I think that it would be in stanfords best interest to make the tinkers points reflect the time it takes to do it. It is not like they are handing out money. I say if that is all it takes to keep people folding do it....

I'm still around, but I have been hit hard by work and school. Hopefully I can update the milestones page in a few days. Saps probably won't be around for a bit longer, but he said he will come back.

How did you find out about the wiring? And what about it made you stop folding? Just curious and all.
