Digital Research DVD-RW & Maxtor DVDs
I just bought a Digital REsearch DVD burner along with some Maxtor 4X DVD-Rs. So far, I've burned 3 DVDs and 3 DVD have gone bad. I was wondering if it's the burner, the DVDs, or a bad combination of the two. No software was running during the burning process.

Have you tried burning them at lower speeds?? Checked the hardware website for any specifics in compatibility??

I've tried slower speeds, and it froze on slowest.
I'll check out the website

Sounds like a bad drive to me.

Sounds like a bad drive, but the DR products are LITE-ON drives so that would be quite uncommon. It happens though. How are you burning the disks (software) and what type of disks are they (movie, data, etc...)? Lastly are there new firmware releases for the drive, compatability releases, etc...
Back when I got my 2x drive I had a hell of a time with Nero, it just would not work. Tried the included software and have not burned a coaster since. Sure software has probably improved over the last two years but, cover all of your bases. Or just return the thing and get a new one, that would be the easiest place to start.

You'll have to use the process of elimination here.
It could be the drive, the media or the burnware.
Try another burnware and better media.
Try the simple processes like data burning to make sure that the drive is functional.
Never heard of Maxtor DVDs, since they aren't made by Maxtor there could be a possibility that they could be made by some cheap media manufacturer.
