As you know, Valve has been disabling the accounts that tried using the "priated" copy of the game. There was a way to preload a game by entering a certain cerial number.
Well basically I entered the number just to see if it would work. I was planning to buy the game anyways, so I was just curious. I entered the cerial number and it said that its valid and that I can preload.
I didnt want to do that, because I wanted to buy the game legitemately. I logged 2 days later and it said that the CD-Key is disabled. I then went ahead and bought bronze version of the game. I had an idea cross my mind that I should create a new steam account, but then I thought that nothihng would happen.
After playing Half Life 2 and counter strike source for a few days there was a problem. Whenever I typed my username and password in it said that the account was disabled. I went to steam forums and found out that valve disabled all accounts who tried using that CD-Key... 50 dollars lost.....
This ofcource shocked and saddened me because I am 17 years old and currently do not have a job. The interesting thing is that I have numerous games that are pirated. I even managed to make some work online. But I believed that this game would be special and that I should go ahead and buy it and support the developers.
I know that most of you will say that I was trying to steal something and that I should go to jail for stealing. Maybe I was stealing games in the past, by not buying previous games, but THIS game, I wasnt actually trying to steal and this is what I get.
I was thinking about pirating it to try it out, but then I thought. I could really be missing out on a freakin awesome game if something goes wrong. So I just bought it. Sorry you didn't have the same luck Take it back and say you need internet to play it but you don't have internet
Haha you will suffer for defying the Great Gabe!!!! Ok I'm j/k on that, and wish you the best of luck. I honestly think that HL2's security stuff is a bit too much.
I bought it online, so I dont actually get a CD-Key. I just get the account with all my steam games in it. That account was disbled. This makes me very depressed.
Can't you just make a new Steam account regardless?
Anyway, IMO you suck. Pirating games is not cool. Who knows about the Steam prices, but the prices of the boxed versions will inevitably go down as time passes...
yes I know that pirating is not cool and I am against it. At least was against it (by feeling guilty every time I do it), up to this day. From now and on I dont know....
allthe HL2 pirating schemes don't work anyway, so worse comes to worse, you can just get grab a copy off somewhere on the net...at least you paid already..
No big loss anyway, the game is not that great from what I have played so far.
Also I think you more then have the right to try to pirate the game now, since you already paid for it and had it wrongly taken away,
Also with no warning? That is just wrong in my opinion.
I believe that the prevalence of pirated versions is in part due to the fact that demos are not released close enuf to release dates or at all. Often ppl download illegal versions just to try it out, because of the massive ammount of poor quality computer games. If some1 was able to test the game out as demo before the release date, iam sure rates of pirating will be reduced for that game. I support hl2 draconian policies in the regard of piracy, but no measure of protection is fool proof.
My advice, just wait for a non-nuked version of this game to come.

You have no taste in games if you think that HL2 isn't good.
