Error msg "Remove and check color cartridge"

HP AIW 7310 series.Out of the blue I get this error. So I removed checked the cartridge and it looked fine, so I installed back. Same problem. Read the troubleshoot and said to physicaly clean cartridge. Well I skiped that and bought a new one. Installed new cartridge same problem. I also did the clean print cartridge nozzle check(new and old cartridge). And still same problem. Aslo when I print in color there are lines. I first noticed the problem when I printed a college project and the text that was suppose to be red came out yellow.

Any ideas? Only a 3 month old printer JOY!

Sorry to hear that... sounds like a defective printer... but one more thing I'd try is check the heads where the cartridge plugs into. See if there are any visible signs of damage or leakage... See if HP would replace it.

At the worst scenario, printers are dirt cheap, even new. Just check craigslist.org classifieds or forums for them. It's the ink cartridges that cost so much!

If you've replaced the cartridge, then this is probably a printer failure. The part of the electronics that detects and reads the ink cartridges probably isn't working, so it thinks there is a problem with the blue cartridge.

NOTE: I know I shouldn't use this word, but I'm assuming you have tried to print one of the printers internal test pages to make sure this isn't a communications error problem, right?

i have found that sometimes the print head contacts can get a bit dirty or glazed.

take the printer cartridges out, and using a quetip and some 91% isopropyl alcohol, clean the shiney copper looking plate on the print head located at the back of the ink carriage in the printer, then wipe it dry with a lint free cloth. i suggest doing it a couple of times.

then reinsert the print cartridges, do a test page and/or a clean cartridges page, and see if it clears up.....i suggest the clean cartridges first, then a test page, may as well cover the whole enchilada..........

if it does, perfect, if it still does the samo as before, the printer is prolly going south. if it is only three months old, it probably is still under warranty...........

In most cases any more, the printhead is part of the ink cartridge itself.

Only on HP/Lexmark printers, and only on the ones that don't use individual inks. Both Canon and Epson (and probably every) individual inks use separate printheads. Sometimes they are replaceable, sometimes they are not.

That's correct. Just replaced a printhead on a Canon MP370 and all worked well.

Well, I haven't bought an inkjet in quite some time, but when I was doing printer support, most printers had the ink cartridge and printhead as one piece, and that included Epson. I was kinda out of the printer support side of things before the multi-color ink units came to the market.

Dude, seriously... how can you sleep at night recommending Lexmark to someone? The cost per page on Lexmark is sky-high and the print quality is disgusting.

I've never heard anyone who's actually used a Lexmark recommend them.

BTW, Lexmark was IBM, *NOT* Xerox. They never had anything to do with Xerox. Lexmark is also currently Dell printers.

    Update:

Called HP tech support. Went threw the PROCESS... and joy to the world I get a refurished printer . And I just noticed with a flashlight that there is a small puddle of ink below the ink cartridge. So it's been leaking ink not only the old but the new ink cartridge as well. (should take a picture)

When I purchased this printer my grandmother wanted one to. So I hooked it all up for her and went to print test page and it would spit out 4 peices of paper then print and get JAMED. over and over again. Sent it back next day to newegg with no questions asked. Got the new one and noticed that the back cover did not fit right, so I upscrewed and and tryed to seat it in but something is tweaked and a small plastic peice broke. BAH!

My older hp's work great *** happen to hp?

And this does'nt touch my nightmare with seagate which I've been meaning to post my 2 cents about. For the preview "on my forth HD".
