Dead SATA?
Working on a build with a gigabyte EP35-DS4 motherboard everything was smooth, booted up and went into the setup utility to set up my 2 sata hard drives as a raid array. Utility would not recognize either harddrive no matter which sata plug they were in or whether raid was enabled or disabled. Tried an old sata hard drive out of another computer and tried switching power sources, all drives were warm to the touch so I believe the power was working. Any suggestions before I RMA this board?

Do you have an SATA CDROM drive to see if that is recognized?
And when you say "Utility" is that the RAID utility? If so, are the drives being recognized in BIOS just not in the RAID utility?

The drives are not recognized in the bios at all although my ide cdrom is. I just received a sata dvd-writer this morning which I connected, it worked for 2 minutes and after I reconnected my hard drives it stopped working and I cant get it to work again even on another computer, the power lite wont even come on. And yes I do power off the computer before making any connections.

Well if HDDs and an optical don't work on the SATA BUS.. you COULD try another data cable, but. otherwise.. this sounds fairly open/shut; meaning, yea you probably just want to RMA the system board (motherboard).
