    Motherboard and memory voltage

Ok... as some of you know by now, I purchased this mobo as part of my Linux PC build.

Well, I had some faulty memory to start with so for now, I've got some generic 512 MB PC2 4200 in it. My question is this.

According to website & manual, my mobo supports 1.8V for DDR2 slots and up to +0.4V in Bios for overclocking. However, when I look at all 2x 1GB DDr2 800 CAS 4 kits, they require at least 1.9V. If I get one of these, will my mobo at least allow me to boot?! Or do I have to apply over-voltage with my generic in it and then shut down and then install memory?

I guess what I'm asking is is the +0.4V extra based only from 1.8V or from whatever the memory defaults to.

Most memory will boot at 1.8v and then you can bump up the voltage before trying to boot into the OS.

When I installed the 4 DIMM's I have now, I wasn't even thinking about the higher than stock vDIMM they required. Instead, once I booted up the system, I went into the BIOS and adjusted it then.

As far as the .4v, that would total out to 2.2v total vDIMM if that's what you needed (1.8 + .4 = 2.2). Unless I'm reading something wrong.

Just to make sure you can boot, use just one stick initially. Then, once booted, go into bios and set the vdimm to that recommended by the ram maker.
