    Overclocking newbie needs help

I have an EVGA 680i with a E6600 cpu and stock heatsink/fan. The ram is Corsair 8500c5. I've had it running for about 2 weeks with no problems. So how do I overclock it? I have only done this once before and that was back when Celeron 300's were new. And how can I monitor the core temp from the desktop? Thanks

Reboot and get into the Bios... then try upping the FSB in relatively small increments... like 5 or 10 MHz... good luck!

When you reach a limit, you usually may have to up the Vcore and/or lower the FSB multiplier...

i would jump into bios, and do 9x300FSB, that should get you 2700mhz = which is a 100mhz overclock from stock. then work your way up from there.. i would do 20mhz(FSB) at a time till you reach your CPU limit.. then after that lower the multiplier, and see your RAM limit.. then after that, mix the two together to give you your best preformance from your system.

Your best bet for monitoring the core temps is Core Temp. With good air cooling you should be able to get 20-25% pretty easy with that gear.

The 680i Bios is A LOT different than Intel chipset mobos.
