Buying stuff from Canada

i'm planning to buy some computer/audio equipment worth about 1000 dollars from online vender in Canada. i live in michigan.

do i have to pay any custom tax?

I live in Canada but had a problem similar to the one you have. In order to get the straight facts, call the local Customs officials and get the information from source. Dont forget to get the name of the Customs person who gave you the information, this can prove invaluable in case of any future arguments. Hope this helps.
