Will the Asus P5W DH Deluxe (975X) board handle the new 1333 MHz FSB CPUs?

I have one of those boards in a system I built a couple months back. I dropped an e4300 in it as a stopgap measure to wait for the Intel price cuts, particularly eying the Q6600 @ $266. However, some of the new 1333 FSB processors have caught my eye, not because of the FSB (useless) but because of the price/performance ratio. Does anyone know if the 975X chipset in general and my board in particular will handle these new CPUs?

well, officially they don't support a fsb of 333 but every board can handle it. You might need a bios update to get it work and set the fsb manually.

Yeah, I currently have the board running at 380 MHz, so 333 MHz is not a concern. I am more worried about some of the nasty things intel has pulled in the past like changing VRM requirements and suchlike which breaks compatibility with older motherboards.

well i don't think that's the case with the E6x00 to the E6x50. Not 100% sure though.

now i come to think of it. Are you sure your board supports Quadcore, since intel did a upgrade to the Badaxe (x975 board from intel itself) and named it badaxe 2. Only the Badaxe 2 supports quacore. And is slightly different hardware wise.

Seems to me that Un4given just put a system together with that board and a Q6600, so I'm pretty sure it supports quads.

Yes, the quads are supported. I am just not sure about the E6X50 processors.

On the front of my box it says it supports the 1333MHz FSB processors. However, unless Intel made a very large change to the VRM, I don't see any problems.

My guess is that a BIOS update is all that will be required.

Yes the P5WDH Dlx supports the QX6850 with an update to bios 2205. HERE is the supported CPU list and bios required.

Quite a few people are having issues with that 2205 BIOS.
Cannot adjust vcore seems to be a common complaint from those who have upgraded to 2205 and flashed back to previous BIOS versions.

I had no issues with 2205 and can adjust the vcore.

The only issue I have with 2205 is that it won't remember some settings. I turn off the integrated sound, restart, and it's back on again. Things like that.

My board has recently started giving me this screen saying my bios is corrupt and bios recovery is starting everytime I try to boot higher than ~385 on the fsb however. This happened before I loaded 2205 though.

Some are having issues with the 2205 BIOS, as documented on pages 210 and 211 of the Asus P5W DH - Problems + Fixes Thread.

Those who have documented issues have all reflashed back to previous BIOS versions.

Precisely, this issue has been experienced by others as well.
In the link below, the poster (k0nsl) has the exact same problems you are having.
It is post #5255 from the thread I posted above.

There are serious issues with this BIOS version, but then again it is Beta.

I never flash Beta BIOS. I simply wait until they are matured and all the bugs fixed.
