Is AMD Phenom 64 Bit?
Does the new AMD Phenom processor have 64 bit support like the dual core Althon, or is it only 32 bit?
AsRock 939 dualsata2 + 1gb DDR400 memory + Athlon64 x2 4200 @ 2.2ghz + Nvidia Geforce 7600GT + 160GB SATA2 HD + WinXP 64 Bit

You can see x86-64 among the instructions, so I would think that Phenom is 64-bit.
Don't think for a minute, though, that they are worth the money. A 2.2GHz Phenom 9500 is $239 and a 2.4GHz Q6600 is $255. What does that tell you?

Well seeing AMD Phenom does support 64 bit most likely I will uprade once I have enought money and the prices go down.
I would much rather buy a 64 bit Amd Phenom than a quad core Intel with higher core speeds but only x86 - or for that matter any other x86 only processors in the future in the advent of the much more efficient x64 architecture.

I see AMD's naming scheme is working well.
Currently using:
Gigabyte nForce 570
Phenom 940 II 3.0GHz
4GB DDR2
Geforce 8800GT
Audigy

Pretty much all new processors coming out these days support X64 (AMD) or EM64T (intel) instruction sets. All the new intel Core architecture chips have it, as well as the AMD chips. So, 64 bit computing should not be a part of your buying decision. They all support it. Although I should note that generally AMD's 64-bit instructions are superior to Intel's implementation. If you look at benchmarks which only measure performance gained from moving to 64-bit, AMD usually creams Intel. That said, the new Core architecture chips are going to be faster in most applications either way, because the chips are just that much faster.

Heh, indeed. So much for the "we don't need the 64 in our processor name anymore" decision.
But yes, both camps, AMD/Intel are x64 capable on all of their new chips.
Thus there is no reason not to get a 64-bit OS.

yeah, who said intel can't do 64? they can and it's actually not that great right now. we're experiencing the slowest migration to 64...ever

they had better be 64bit

intel has been 64 bit ever since they moved to socket 775

i'm not going to repeat what everyone already said... but i am curious... what gave you that (wrong) idea?

It's going to come to a point where the numbering scheme just increases higher and higher, until it becomes ridiculous.
Then, both AMD and Intel will need to agree to just divide everything by 1000 moving forward, and "reset" the numbering scheme, like the Mexican peso.

A valid point.

XP-64 is the worst OS since ME, or might be worse than ME - either way it's complete garbage. Vista-64 is okay, but suffers from all the other Vista problems - lack of drivers/support.
Not much point to 64-bit at this time.

you resurrected this thread, just to say that? something completely off-topic and uncooperative?

Off topic? The whole thing is about 32 or 64 bit. Regardless of the ability of the instruction set, without a 64-bit OS there is no 64-bit computing.
You complained of the migration speed, I pointed out why.
How precisely, is that uncooperative?
