    Spore

Yeah, its out early. Both legit (thanks to it not having a street date, I suppose) and non-legit.

don't games and movies normally come out on tuesdays? when was spore supposed to release?

either way, if it's out, somebody needs to go get addicted to it for a good ten hours or so and let us know how it is. for all the waiting and hype, if it's very far short of stellar it'll be a failure of daikatana-like proportions.

So how do they transition between the levels? This was the one thing I kept reading that EA never previewed so you didn't know if it would be seamless or if you would just jump from one age to another.

I think you jump from one stage to the next which is marked by choosing how to evolve

The game is entirely single player, there is no multiplayer component at all. Being connected to the internet, however, allows the game to populate your planet with beings and buildings created by other players around the world. Even if you choose to stay offline the entire time, the amount of stuff Maxis put in there is insane.

Once you fill up your progress meter you have the option to move on to the next stage. So you press a button, you get an animation of your race advancing, and you're on the next stage.
