Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to get into servers now. Do you just google for them and add them in? Does he need to download mods, or are those server side? I'm finding that most servers say 'need to update'. Reading the posts here looks like today a new version was released..maybe that is the problem with finding active servers?
Skins, etc. are client side. Gameplay mods are server side. As for the update thing, yeah, most servers will probably take a few days to be updated to 1.3.x. I know DS is currently out of date as we speak, because I'm still at work.

Thanks, he found a skin creator site and made his own skin and then we just uploaded it to his profile. He found a working 1.3 server, but it is a flat out free for all deathmatch with like 50 dudes just killing each other and chat spam for days LOL

Reason: indistinct link
I noticed today that my son has been playing minecraft on the PC. So, I look on the desktop and he's been playing a cracked version. I had a little chat with him about what 'cracked' means and piracy. So, went to minecraft's site, logged him in and purchased the game with my credit card and he slid me $28 cash to cover it. I made him pay for it
Good teaching moment.
My son is wanting to get into this. He's been watching videos of it on YouTube for the last several days. I guess I'm going to let him get it. Maybe he can put his imagination to work a bit.
Is it pretty easy to get on a server? Is there one that's recommended for younger folks?

Adventure server is still running 1.2.5. I reverted it due to weirdness with the 1.3.1 update and "old maps". We'll see how long it takes to fix this. The glitch happens when leaving a portal. You simply fall through the world until you die, or you suffocate in a wall.
In the meantime, I have started a 1.3.1 test server on the normal port. That's darksavior.net:25565

I don't know..he's just been playing on some server with two of his schoolmates. It is very creative and I would recommend it. He's already come up with some neat creations and listening to him talk about the process of creating this to have more of this so he can make more of that to build this and that is pretty cool.

Local is a good place to start playing around. If you want to go to a public server, do some reconnaissance first, make sure it's safe for the kids, then add it to the server list in their client. I would totally recommend our Sharky's server, except our map is glitching with the new update. Once it's fixed, you are more than welcome to have them join the server. (Let me know their usernames, we run a whitelist to keep out the griefers).

It'll be back once the bug is fixed where you die every time you go through a portal, and sometimes when you respawn as well.
Yeah, we tried the new server version but found that bug.
To be clear: The old map is running on the normal darksavior.net:25567, same as it has always been, it's just sitting on server version 1.2.5
We have a test 1.3.1 server running now on darksavior.net:25565 to play with while we wait. Don't get attached to it, it doesn't get backed up, and we aren't keeping it. Once 1.3.2 or whatever drops that fixes this bug we'll update the main server and be back in business.
So tl;dr version: To play adventure you have to stay on 1.2.5. If you want to mess with 1.3.1, we have a test server for that.

Yes. If you didn't point out the link I would have had no idea it was there.
