    IE8 - JSON is undefined.

In nearly everypage on the internet i get an error in the lower left hand corner of IE8.
Says JSON is undefined, details say:

    Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
    Timestamp: Sun, 12 Dec 2010 16:17:41 UTC

    Message: 'JSON' is undefined
    Line: 418
    Char: 6
    Code: 0
    URI: https://www.google.com/accounts/Serv...lcache=2&hl=en

    I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling JAVA
    Cleared IE temp files.
Ran a SpyBot SD scan and MalwareByte's Anti-Malware. Nothing found.

It was originally accompanied with another error - a IE security warning about security settings. It would popup on every https page, and when i clicked Yes or No it wouldn't go away forever, but would popup again.
I initially tried adding site to Trusted Sites, but that didn't work.
    The message said:
"Do you want to view only the webpage content that was deliverred securely?

This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the entire webpage."

But i killed that error by enabling mixed content in IE Security settings.

So anyway, ever hear of the JSON error?

JSON is Java Script Object Notation.
Here is a bit of discussion about it.

Personally, I've never encountered this error using Windows 7 x64 and IE8 or any other version.

Provide some links to websites are giving you this error. I tried the google link above. It worked perfectly.

Make sure that active scripting is enabled in the browser security settings.

    Hmm, it's getting worse.

I foolishly downloaded, installed and ran this ie Fix utility from MS:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
And now IE is even worse.

This page produces both issues: https://www.google.com
When i open that page, i get the Security prompt.
I click "No", because i would like to see the content that was sent "unsecurely".
Anyway, it won't let me sign in to gmail.
It just continually reloads the page and continually gives me the security warning.

This very sharky page btw, shows the exclamation error about JSON undefined.

    Active Scripting is enabled btw

    I use Windows 7 64bit

    Edit:
Removed IE via Add/Remove Windows Installed Components.
    Rebooted.
    Readded IE
    Rebooted
    Problem persists.

I can tolerate the JSON error, but i can't handle not getting into my email.
So, i've installed Firefox even though i am no Mozilla fanboy and had abandoned FF ages ago.

JSON has nothing to do with Java. JavaScript and Java are, despite the names, completely unrelated.

This error sounds like there might be a problem with your trusted certificates.

yeah i tend to agree, since any https site doesn't work.
I tried clearing SSL state with no results.

    Anything else you can suggest?

I have been away from Windows for a while now, so I'm not sure what to tell you. There must be a way to view your certificates.

The only other thing I can think of is try Firefox. IIRC Firefox signs things with it's OWN certificates and now with system ones... at least on Mac and *nix.

You can view certificates by running certmgr.msc with administrative privilege.

Isn't Firefox also using these same certs?

A certificate for Google. Have you messed with IE8 security settings. If so, try resetting them to default.

Exported then deleted the only google cert i could find.
Removed it from Trusted sites as well.
Restared IE and now gmail is working, great!

Still seeing error exclamation in lower left corner.
    Now it says:

    Webpage error details

    User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; SLCC2; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; Tablet PC 2.0)

Yes i had changed some IE Security settings.
I enabled "Display mixed content" due to the Security prompt.

Anyway, haven't seen the JSON msg for a bit.

    Solution

Hello, i had the same problem, and i found the solution here:

    http://winmike.blogspot.com/2011/01/...after-you.html

seems that when i updated my divx software, it installed some addons to my iexplorer causing this problem.

Disabling the addons and restarting your explroer solves the problem
