Post Tom Pabst ardently against Capitalsim *Rant*

This guy really makes me sick. Everyone knows Tom is biased towards AMD. Thats not news. But if you read his artcile "Who's screwing who" you get a much better look at the troll. Not only does he take his usal shots at Intel, but now he throws Nvidia in the mix.

He basically is saying how DARE Nvidia use good marketing tactics to sell their product! How DARE they raise prices when they are successful!

This guy has a seroius problem with companies that excel and whats worse continue to want to Exel! LOL

Don't believe it? Take a gander at the second page first sentences of his Intel slam:

The days of freedom and peace are over now. Intel is getting ready to blow AMD away with its fast and acceptably priced Pentium 4 processors and Intel's managers are regaining their long-gone self-confidence.

This guy has a real problem with Intel and instead of being the unbiased journalist he claims he is, he is STILL takeing shots at Intel even though they are performing.

    Its really getting rediculus.

Well he is geeting his point across then, if he can stir up those kind emotions from people. Thats his point of view, as you can say Nvidia can care less. But he does have a point I hate shelling out $300+ for a vid. card. So I buy a cheaper one from ATi.

The true role of a journalist is to be unbiased in reporting unless its an editorial. And since this is not labeled an editorial he is breaking that rule

TY Texmaster. Some one has finally figured out Tom. Don't have time to explain right now. I will talk about this later today.

That article is in the "Columns" section, which is where he posts his editorials. There's nothing wrong with showing a little favoritism in an editorial. I don't always agree with the guys opinions either, but he does have the right to write about whatever he feels.

Column is NOT a synonym for editorial.

If it really is an editorial, let him call it that. Is it really too much to ask?

It say's in the catagory column "Tom's Blurb" so I think it is a column. And I've always associated "column" with "editorial", the latter just being a column by an editor. Opinions are like ***holes, everybody's got one.

I stopped reading tomshardware 2 years ago because of this...maybe he does get a larger audience by being controvercial & opinionated, but I just got sick of it.

Tom is Tom and I guess I just accept that fact. I do check the benchmark's on his site as he does a good job. Random rants don't effect me much unless it's some noob on this site. I also check out HardOCP everyday - Kyle's a good guy and actually responds to my ocassional e-mail..

Rule what rule? He can write his opinion in his column on his website. If you don't like it, don't read it. I my self never read them.

You have to give him credit though, he always backs up his claims. Personally I agree with most of what he has to say. He gets pissed-off by people marketing ******** products and passing them off with phony benchmarks & fancy names. He is a sliver in the *** of companies who do under-handed **** and for that I respect him. He's never distorted the facts to back up his claims and for that I also respect him.

If you don't like what he has to say, don't read it. You can't blame him for speaking his mind, it is his website and therefore his medium.

The guy berated 3dfx and rode the bandwagon of Nvidia until 3dfx went under.

Since the buyout Nvidia is no longer on the 6 month product cycle and the price of their flagship product skyrocketed.

Does he actually think AMD would not do the same if they were market leader?

To champion any company in business is to champion the devil in a different guise. *shrug*

He hasn't distorted the facts, huh? More on this later.

First of all, though, Tom Pabst is from Germany. Anyone see what I'm saying? He's a socialist. He doesn't understand the ways of the capitalist system and thinks things like IP should be free. Now, in a perfect world, IP would be free. But this is the real world. Capitalism is much more effective in the real world. If you don't believe me, look at Russia. Socialism is better but still not as good. Just look at the muddled patent and licensing laws in Europe.

Second, Tom is a doctor . . . in medicine. He doesn't understand basic physics very well. The chief editor I believe is an EE and doesn't write as scathing as articles and Tom does. So there are good articles written on Tom's web site, it's just that Tom's articles tend to be pretty biased and unknowledgeable.

Now, let’s look at some of Tom's mistakes. How about the Rambus thing issue?

First off, Tom doesn't like Rambus because their sole way of making money is through licensing fees. Tom doesn't believe in IP as I stated before and he thinks that companies like Rambus would spend over ten years and millions of dollars to develop memory IP for free. The capitalist system doesn't work this way.

When Tom first started looking at Rambus he didn't understand why Intel would go with it. Now, most rational people would assume that since Intel is a huge company with many engineers from the bottom to the top that Rambus was probably not a bad idea. However, Tom is a moron (that's the only conclusion I can come to ). Since he doesn't understand signaling he figured that RDRAM was stupid.

If you want me to tell you about memory signaling and problems associated with it you may ask.

I remember reading articles where he manipulated data to his advantage to make people angry (Sometimes I think he writes about emotional subjects to attract visitors to his site). He said there were problems with heat and latency and that RDRAM wasn't even as fast as SDRAM. He neglects to mention however that DDR has much higher latency at high bandwidth loads, heat problems are negligible, and the i820 is only SINGLE CHANNEL so that even SDRAM would beat it! He also neglects to say how DDR will have some big problems as it increases in speed. I'm not sure how he left these things out.

Lately he has been getting angry at Rambus for suing multiple companies that stole Rambus IP. Now, if someone stole your car and ran off with it you would make sure that they paid. How he gets angry at the court cases, I am not sure. Maybe it's the socialist in him.

And, yes, journalists do have the right to print accurate information for the people. If you are not accurate Capitalism will fail. To keep the market fair, consumers must have the truth to determine which products are best. Sorry about the rant.

What he is mad at with Rambus is not that some one stole their IP, but what they claim to be solely their IP WAS NOT totally their idea.

Even Rambus' own stockholders are sueing them for falsley misleading them in what Rambus claimed to be theirs, but the courts have ruled otherwise; and yes I know they filed an appeal, and have been granted that, but I personally don't see the outcome changing.

@!#$ socialists. What do you expect from an internet columnist?

Oh well, he's entitled to an opinion. I've been pleased with his hardware reviews, guides, etc.

No one ever said I had to agree with the BS in his columns.
