Not bad, but not a real blowout compared to the 580.

It barely beats the 580 which has been out for over a year. I'm not impressed.

The crossfire numbers look really good but over all I agree. This is not a significant leap over the 6000 series. I think adding all the extra features took a lot away from the potential increase in gaming performance.

My conumdrum is whether to get the HD7970, or two, or to wait for the HD7990......I'm not in a rush to go HD79xx as my flashed HD6950 does all games maxed out, some with AA, some w/o I must add. I may even go tri-CFX with a HD7990 + HD7970......YUMMY!!!

If you are getting good frame rates now then wait. I have never seen any numbers that say 3 cards are much better than 2. It was with older generation cards so maybe that is different with the 6xxx/7xxx series. I was looking to see if it was worth adding a cheap 3rd 4850. It wasn't.

Yeah, good call.....I'd assumed that the sweet spot would be tri-CFX like the previous gen or two. Since I'm getting pretty solid performance outta my flashed HD6950, I think I'll hold off any urge to buy till I see proper benchies from sites I trust. Regardless, I'll prolly end up with two (at the very least!!! ) just so I can let my spanking new CPU spread its wings....so to say. I have it at 4.25ghz now, will move to 4.5ghz after I'm more familiar with my mobo's OCing potential.
