I'll be selling my 580s as soon as the 780s come out and grab 2 of them. That will be sweet. Not holding my breath though as I still think it will be a while before the 780s are out. Can't wait for Ivy either so I can upgrade the core.

This looks more like 2x the performance though rather than 4x. 2x is a bit more believable as well.

4x is absurd and no doubt a forum rumor. 2x is still a tall order. We aren't in the late 90's, early 2000's anymore. I'll believe it once Tom's gets a sample.

Looks pretty promising. Its not the ridiculous performer that people were shooting for, but it is very respectable. The power consumption is not much higher than the 6970 at load and only 5W at idle. DP 1.2 and the new HDMI port are nice additions. Speed wise, $550 seems steep especially with the rumors of the 780 being a nice card. It is better than the 580 by an average of 25%, but I don't think its performance is high enough to drive people away from the 580 if Nivida lowers the price to ~380 like the rumors suggested.
I'm kind of disappointed when I think of how the 7950 will perform. It will probably be on par with a 580, which doesn't make it much more powerful than the current 6970 which can be had for around 300 even now. The 7950 is tentatively priced at 350-399, so I certainly don't see the value in that card. The 7800's are supposed to perform like 6950-6970's at the high end, so I don't see a big deal there either with 6950's going for 230 being able to unlock to 6970 speeds.
The OC head room on the 7970 is pretty ridiculous, but Tom's suspects they received a hand picked sample, so take that FWIW.
Overall, it is a nice increase, but I don't think the price is very lucrative. I think AMD should have released these for better prices to totally stomp on Nvidia's sales and try to build consumer confidence. What I see are cards priced right at their performance range compared to the already overpriced Nvidia cards. Kind of a bummer in that respect.

My only big problem with AMD is their drivers. I'm still not convinced that they have it in the bag as far as bringing good drivers to the table when needed.

550 is too rich for me right now. I'll have to wait to see if the prices drop on the 580 or if Nvidia counters quicker with their 7 series.

Yeah not impressive considering it barely beats the 580 which has been out for over a year and is more expensive than a 580. I still can't wait to see what the 780s will do.

That's my biggest worry, if the 7970 edges out the 580gtx by just 20-25% then where does that leave the rest of the lineup? Still in this generation without a good price.
