    Official Board Game Thread

I've been getting more into board games and I thought it would be great to have an official thread for board game reviews and recommendations.

That said, I'm looking to review Mage Knight when I get a chance to play it this weekend.

Its a fairly complicated game so hopefully i don't have too many issues playing.

I am a huge board game fan! My favorite is probably still Race for the Galaxy, though we got kinda burnt out on it after a few hundred games and haven't played in a while.

Lately I've been playing Risk Legacy, Ascension (just picked up the new expansion yesterday) and Tigris & Euphrates.

I am a huge fan of board games too. I am going to assume that card games fit this category too.

Some that we have played recently: Munchkin, Munchkin Zombie, Munchkin Booty, Apples to Apples, Scrabble, Wrath of Ashardalon (one of the D&D boardgames) and Dominion. I am sure that I am missing something, but those are all a blast to play.

I also have Battlestar Galactica sitting on my shelf unopened.

Your friends are lame! If they're still thinking of board games as Monopoly and Scrabble, you'll just need to introduce them to some gateway Eurogame like Carcassonne.

I would not mind trying that new streamlined Starfleet Battles game called Federation Commander one of these days.

Or the Starfire series. I missed the party with that game though. The stuff is not cheap these days.

Munchkin is epic! We all kinda burnt out on it after playing it pretty regularly for a couple years. I haven't played in about 5 years. :O

Went through the starter scenario in Mage Knight last. Overall i was pretty impressed and look forward to playing it more.

The biggest hurdle is just getting through the rules. There is an incredible amount of stuff involved and it takes a while to really grasp the various game mechanics. I can not stress enough just how much "stuff" there is to do. You take the role of 1 out of 4 possible and unique Mage Knights. As you explore the world you can recruit your own party, fight monsters, conquer strongholds/cities/spelltowers, fight other player, explore ruins, collect power artifacts and spells, and train in deadly skills. There are multiple scenarios to play that include everything to general exploration to all out warfare with your rival Mage Knights.

All in all I'm really glad I bought it. I just need to find more people to play with.

Going to get a chance to play the new Ascension expansion tomorrow instead of our regular Risk Legacy game because we'll be missing a player. I hope it's awesome!

Have you guys played that game I think Monroeski linked to that was only 20 bucks or something? I think it had a WWII vibe but it looked to be steampunk a little bit. It had some miniature you could purchase. I missed out on that sale, but that game looked like a lot of fun.

I was looking at the LOTR card game a while back b/c you could play it single player as well. Anyone try it?

    http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Flight...6234918&sr=8-1

Also, I wanted to play Tannhauser...but a lot of these boardgames I have to wait for my son to get older, then maybe he can get his friends involved and we can have some nice 4 player fun.

While on Fantasy Flight's website, looks like they are re-releasing an old High School favorite of mine!! FORTRESS AMERICA!!!! http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ed...idm=190&esem=2
