hmm... new machines new ram. memtest fail?

    ok just wondering.

I got a new dell desktop. and have some new memory lying around.

installed stuff on it and used for about 5 days. not a single problem machine runs fine.

just for out of curiosity I ran memtest on it. it just rebooted the machine.

during the start of the test.

should I be concerned? this is for work. and I can't really return the memory.

I've heard of people that have memtest fail but they were having problems and then used memtest and see the failure.

    my machine runs fine though.

Did you run memtest or memtest86? Is your version compatable with 64bit?

I've had Memtest86 do that to me a couple of times. As long as the computer is stable during normal use, I wouldn't be overly concerned myself.

Hmm...idk. Are you saying that you installed ram that was laying around in a new Dell system and it's failing memtest? Does it fail with only the stock mem? I prob wouldn't leave it like that myself.

You could try running the built-in Dell diagnostic. I've got some Dell laptops that are having some RAM issues and they keep failing during the first march test that tests the RAM. If there are issues you may get an error from the diagnostic, like I did, indicating a memory integrity error. There is also a Logs option in the BIOS that retains some of that diagnostics data that you can check.

still seems to run fine. I can't do a dell diagnostic as I don't have any of the CD and I do my usual fresh format and completely new installation on the HD.

I'm not going to worry much about it right now.
