HD 4000 graphics is certainly a nice step up from HD 3000 graphics, BUTTT still can't beat the AMD HD 6550 graphics.

Too bad the HD4000 is only in the high end chips. I was hoping to see mid-range laptops with it. Maybe in future revisions.

Keep in mind none of the laptop CPU's have been announced. Not to mention, if I remember right, there was an announcement that all laptop CPU's would come with the HD4000 IGP.
But on the dekstop you are absolutely right. I bought an i5-2500K for my HTPC back in the day because it was the lowest end CPU with the HD3000 graphics. Now you can go buy an i3-2125 for $100, get the HD3000 IGP, and call it good.

Ah, that is true. I hope they offer it in lower end cpus for mobile applications. They must to compete with AMD at this point.

That sounds like a nice combo. Wonder if we will actually see the rumored 15" Macbook Airs with Ivy Bridge CPU's.

hopefully not castrated though...
ie my gf's 11" macbook air has an i5 2467m. it sounds impressive until you realize that it is a 1.6ghz dual core sandy bridge. so its actually a slower part compared to the i3 2100 in my gaming rig... hell its slower than my old core2duo e8200. the mobile naming conventions are ridiculous...
