Hey guys, my trusty old Q6600 + Asus P5W DH Deluxe seem to have upped and died on me, so I'm in the market for their replacement. I have a set of 4x 4GB RipJawsX 2133mhz RAM lying around, so I might as well go for a mobo that can use the RAM. Now, I'm lookin' at these two combos -
1. FX8150 + MSI 790A-G45 (good CPU, weak mobo)
2. FX4100 + Asus M5A97EVO (weak CPU, better mobo)
I'm looking at these two as they are available in the Used/Garage section of the local tech forums in my neck of the woods. I know squat about AMD CPU's, but obviously the FX8150 is the beastly one, but I've been told the MSI mobo that comes with it is rather 'Meh'. On the other hand, the Asus M5A79 EVO, I've also been told, is the better mobo but comes with the FX4100 instead....I'm torn. Which should I go for? I know the FX8150 is costlier, but not by that much, so I can afford it. Is the MSI 790A-G45 really that bad?
Buy both and sell off the FX4100 + MSI combo?

I don't think there is any reason to get a quad core FX. From what I have seen the per core performance is less than a Phenom II. I guess it will depend on how high you can overclock it.
Wish I would have seen this earlier. Those slim fans are horrible. I have Scythe slim and it doesn't push any air. They do not have good pressure as well, so trying to get air through that cooler would be tough. I would get a good 25mm fan for that beast. I'm partial to 38mm fans though . Two Yate Loon medium speeds at 25mm would be fantastic.
How are you liking the processor? Any overclock on it? Also, what do you use a 3rd computer for? I'd love to figure out a way to justify a cheap build lol.
