Trying to find lost space on ssd, inspired by voodoochild.
I've got a 120 gig Crucial M4 that currently sits at 61.9 gig free of 119. My system restore is set to 1% (1.19 gig). I set the page file to 2 gig. In local disk (which I have show hidden files/folders on) I have (when right clicking and selecting properties)
AMD-431 MB
ATI-160 MB
Intel-516 KB
Perf Logs- 0 bytes
Program Files - 513 MB
Program Files (x86) - 2 GB
Program Data (hidden folder) - 713 MB
Temp - 0 bytes
Users - 4.27 GB
Windows - 15.6 GB
That's nowhere near what's being reported. The page file was originally 16 gig and I knocked that down to 2. Can't tell what else it could be. I attached a Space Sniffer shot.
disable Hiberfil in Services and also disable hibernation...then, as administrator you can remove the hiberfil file from the 'c' drive and gain some room..to see the hiberfil file, see comments below..
Temp internet can be moved to another volume if you haven't done it already...
When you do this, your system will not be able to hibernate, but you can still use speedstep or cool & quiet (whatever it is called now) and also let the monitor black out at whatever timeout you set...
SSD's hate coming out of hibernations or sleep, not all of them, but it is a problem none the less. I don't hibernate or sleep...
also, before you do anything, get into 'computer', highlite your 'c' drive, then on the upper left (assuming windows 7) click organize, then click folder and search options, scroll down and uncheck hide hidden files and folders and then uncheck hide protected operating system files, you will get a warning, just click through it...
then you can 'see' everything, check out the size of the hidden hiberfil folder and then make a decision...
your 128GB SSD should never go below about 35/40GB free space, otherwise you make it harder for garbage collection cleanup by the SSD and will experience system slowdowns...
good luck..

Hibernate is turned off. It's not even listed under sleep in power options.
I just cleared temp internet files.
Ran a search and there is no hiberfil.sys file on my system because hibernation has been disabled long ago.
did you uncheck protected system files and take a look for the actual hiberfil file like I suggested, or did you just shortcut and assume it was gone from the 'c' drive after going to power options and noting hibernate was turned off? The hiberfil.sys will not show in a search UNLESS you uncheck the protected system thingy...been there, done it...
disabling it in power options just disables hibernate, doesn't eliminate the hiberfil folder from the 'c' drive which can be a fairly good size...
temp internet would be best moved to your other volume as clearing is temporary, it will fill up when you start surfing the net again...
just trying to help, I spent a lot of time researching this when I had the problem, and I did the research very recently, so the data is fresh in my brain...
you HAVE to uncheck the stuff I told you to do or you won't 'see' all that is on the 'c' drive...in particular at least uncheck the protected system files part to see what is...
something has to be taking up space, find out and I will check back in a couple...

your drive looks very similiar to mine at present...
I did the math, nothing adds up with the sniffer program as far as total GB's used...you are still in the 'safe' zone of free space for the SSD to be able to do its garbage collection during idle time..
There has to be something using the space, try this, with the protected system files unchecked like I described, run the sniffer program again, it may pick up the hidden stuff that way...
I apolgise for my rudeness with the last postage...
Lets see what is sniffed this time around...
I believe your SSD is 128MB's, not the 120 you have listed, which would make it about 119 to 120 net (1000 vs 1024, typical with all drives)

I appreciate the help. I didn't think you were rude at all. I'm hoping that the drive isn't going bad. I wonder if it would report the correct size (like it does) in my computer and in the bios even with a bad block or two.
I re-ran sniffer and got the same results. Kind of frustrating. There's at least 20 gig taken up by something.
I am having a very similar issue as well...originally was only using up 21gb of space on my ssd (60gb ssd used mainly just for windows) clean install of 7 onto the ssd so it recognized that and turned restore/sleep off right from the start. For some reason its saying im using 42gb of space now, i checked the properties and added up all the file usage for each folder and only came up with 21gb, cant figure out where the rest of it is coming from
this is especially annoying if you have a smaller SSD, in your case a 60GB, you need to keep about 20GB free so the SSD can do its garbage collection, you are at the edge with free space right now and will suffer performance degradation if it keeps growing...
it might be a good idea for you to start your own thread regarding your particular problem..
Good luck..

Thanks for the reply and sorry for cutting in on his post, just sounds almost exactly what i got going on too....read your link however system restore has never been on at all since the start, neither has hibernation/sleep. Read some of the previous posts, turned on view all hidden files on the drive and but there is almost no difference (the 2 hidden folders werent really taking any space) I did create a windows back up, however on my HDD vs my main SSD and checked all the pathing and it is confirmed saved on the HDD not the ssd...maybe windows is double counting the space somehow? Its the only thing ive done recently and the file size/space difference is about the same...dunno will figure it out, will be interested to see tho what you guys come up with to solve dyne's problem, could fix mine as well...sorry again for cutting in
System restore, you turned it off yourself? (not a good idea with windows, LOL) keeping the slider @ 1% or 2% will help with the growth...
You checked the config slider in the control panel>system>advanced, etc???
Windows isn't double counting anything, everything is findable, one way or another...
A little more informations regarding your rig would be helpful too, like number of additional HD's, where your programs are located...
Also, when you loaded the OS on the SSD did you do the deed with NO OTHER HD's attached to the system? I only ask this because sometimes windows likes to put some install files on the second hard drive with a clean install, imaging is different, install as single drive and those files stay on the main HD, add your other drive(s) after winblows is all tight and right...I know all this doesn't make sense, but it is nice to know what the config is on any rig that has problems...

Just checked again to make sure it was off/slider etc...windows 7 automatically detects it being a ssd and turns those features off from the start (as far as i can remember, maybe i was prompted w/ options when i did it) brand new ssd, but my other drives (1tb HDD/30gb SSD) were attached at the time, as far as i can tell there are no other files on the other hds (I formatted both of them right after finishing the install of win 7) For the last couple months i was right where i should have been at w/ about 21gb used up from windows then out of no where this "extra" 19gb shows up...all my programs/games/files are located on my HDD, the only thing on the 60GB SSD is windows and evga prescion/OC scanner.

Reason: Added left out info
Defrag, yes, when detected as SSD, good idea to double check though....
System Restore, no, it will be activated with clean OS load and the slider for the boot drive could be @30% like it was on my laptop that was losing space quickly, similiar to your rig...
I am around 26GB used on my SSD's, this includes windows and all programs and what not, plus the system restore @2%, and it is holding steady, this is both on my lappy and main rig..I fill up my spinners with everything else.......
Don't know what else you could check, I am not drivin' your bus, so it is really hard to know exactly what is goin on with your rig...

I would say reading this briefly, for anyone disabling system restore, just have system restore save the backups on another harddrive. Run cc cleaner to see if you have any "crap" loaded. Then I would want to see if you have downloaded files installed on the SSD which can be removed. I'll read more thoroughly later.
