It's pretty amazing, they didn't have to cut down the 680s at all and it's a custom PCB, 10 phase, custom cooler, no plastic, they improved AFR, etc.

I don't think I'm gonna be buying one however, my 680 is fine.

The 690 is actually pretty amazing. 95% of the performance of 2x680 with a TDP of only 300W and a normal operating power consumption of ~250W. This thing is heads and shoulders above the 590, which was only about 79% as fast as 2x580's.

They need to remove this from the case. It's getting a bit ridiculous now. Video cards need to be an appliance that sits between the computer and the monitor.

I could see buying something like this if it came in a package that was easy to sell, easy to move, and worked with multiple systems.

Well, my 2x HD7970 in CF does Metro 2033 @1920x1200, Tessellation + 4xMSAA + DoF (Advanced PhysX's disabled for obvious reasons) and got ~70fps, so 2x GTX680 should do it easily enough (since Metro 2033 favors nV cards in the first place).

Don't you guys know all you need is intel graphics? I have a strict rule never to spend more than 200 on a video card. Usually it's less than 150. Every time I have spent more I have regretted it. I spent 320 on an 800XT AIW and it was quickly rendered obsolete. That was the last time I broke the rule.

No way. I have a 680 GTX and the difference between my 360/PS3 and my computer is ridiculous. Muddy textures, aliasing, low amount of post processing, small shader support, low FPS, low resolution with hardware scaling, etc etc plague console games.

I can't wait to see what the new gen consoles will bring to the table. Any midrange GPU will exponentially increase what developers can do on consoles. The 360 and PS3 came out at a time when shaders were in their infancy. We now have cards with 1600+ unified shaders while the 360 has 48... The PS3 is even worse as it only has 24 pixel shaders and 8 vertex shaders.

What are shaders? Well, they handle all post processing, ambient lighting, diffuse lighting, specular lighting, ambient occlusion, bump map, reflections, post AA, on and on.

Developers will be able to go crazy when they get a modern GPU to work with.

Battlefield 3 is the best example of this. On consoles it's 24 players max, 720p, and 30FPS.

On a PC you can run 2560x1440, 64 players, and might be able to get up to 120Hz with VSYNC eventually.

Completely different world IMO. Twice the resolution, more than twice as many players, better textures, better particle effects, higher frame rate.
