my galaxy nexus (1.2ghz dual core, 1gb ram) running android 4.1 (jellybean) runs smoother than my gf's galaxy s3 (1.5ghz dual core, 2gb ram) running 4.0 (ice cream sandwich)

it really has little to do with ram or cpu past a certain amount, in fact i bet my original nexus one (singe core 1ghz) would run smoother once i install jellybean on it.. when ICS first came out and i installed it on my nexus one, it was actually smoother than the newer dual core phones at the time running gingerbread (ie htc sensation), this is why i always stick with a nexus device from now on... it doesnt matter if you have the latest quad core and 2-4gb ram if you are stuck with last years OS (like installing winXP on a 32gb ram gaming rig)

i picked up the nexus 7 tablet pre-order 2 days ago and it is extremely smooth.. i have not run into any stutter at all... but once again, i think this has more to do with it running jellybean than the quad core tegra3. in day to day use, the UI feels the same as my galaxy nexus (dual core 1.2ghz) but you can feel the tegra3's horesepower when playing high bitrate mkv movies which makes my galaxy nexus stutter regularly.


i have no experience with the iphone4s, but its definately smoother than my iphone4 16gb

iPhone 4s is smooth as butter. iPhone 4, not so much. I used a 4s to a bit and you can definitely tell a difference during day to day use.

It doesn't even matter to me anymore. Now that I've got my new MBA and iPad3 (and I'm loving the crap out of both), I'm totally drinking the Koolaid. I'm definitely going iPhone5 when it comes out.

I'm sure 4.1 is smoother and better, but I still have overall stability and usability issues with my current Android devices that I haven't seen on iOS. So I'm not super keen on grabbing another for 2 years. It's time for trying the other side. I've never had an iPhone.

i use both an iphone4 and a galaxy nexus... i mostly use the iphone for its iOS exclusives but i find android to be better for my day to day use since its so integrated with googles services.. my life pretty much revolves around google calendar/contacts/picasa and even plus (for automatic photo uploads and management). i hardly use my phone as a "phone" so i prefer the larger screen

i do love our 11" macbook air... its hands down the best portable laptop i have ever used... just a solid product all around. iOS on the other hand just feels so dated to me compared to android and windows mobile. i cant imagine using iOS as my daily driver

My only fear is the integration with Google as my main cell number has been ported to GV. I heavily use GV and Google Apps. iOS6 Nav is also unproven. Verizon will at least take something back for a small fee. I'm gonna give it a shot. Oddly, iOS doesn't feel dated to me at all. It works where often my 4 android devices do not. (Motorola Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and 2 HTC Thunderbolts) I care much more about speed and reliable functionality than I do nifty new features.

i think thats your problem you have 4 android devices which are heavily skinned and have lackluster updates.... get a nexus device, like i said above, a nexus device with vanilla jellybean will run circles around a comparable android device running an older version of android with a skin on top

heres my analogy... say apple ever allowed 3rd party manufacturers to produce iOS devices... a motorola or HTC produced "iPhone" running a skinned version of iOS will have more bugs and bloat than a native apple product. apple does not allow 3rd party hardware and hence they have tight integration between their software and hardware. the nexus devices have similar (not on the same level as apple mind you, but very close) levels of integration.

i have owned MANY android devices over the course of a few years and my 3 nexus devices (nexus one, galaxy nexus, and nexus 7) have all been miles ahead of their peers simply due to software: no bloat/features , less bugs, immediate updates. even rooting and installing 3rd party roms on the other devices does not help that much since they are running alpha/beta/reverse engineered drivers from AOSP.

trust me CM9 is laggy... i had it running on 3 different devices. its not apparant though until you compare it side by side with a device running jellybean or apparently an iphone4s

Yes I have messed around with an S2 and it definitely stutters. Especially when compared to my iPad3. Same thing with the Galaxy tab.

Drink that koolaid! Really though, the tight integration of apple hardware and software is what drives people to them. Everything just seems to work very well together. I may look at the iPhone 5 when it becomes available but iOS 6 didn't impress me in terms of features. AirPlay is one of those nice features that you never knew you wanted. I use my gf iPad fairly regularly to throw on random videos through AirPlay on the 60" plasma in our living room.

On a side note by Nexus 7 shipped! Should be here tomorrow. I already know the first app I'll be buying when I get it too. $25 google play gift card was a nice bonus.

Just wait. Once Mountain Lion comes out there are going to be Apple TVs EVERYWHERE.

One of the biggest problems is finding a way to project what's on a screen that isn't your own. No more dongles or adapters. No more drivers. No more cables. No more pressing INPUT over and over again trying to find the right input for Port , Y or Z.

Yeah it looks awesome. Plus I've been trying for a while to have a reliable way to control my audio system from zone 2 with sources such as Spotify and Pandora from my droid tablets. I never got it working correctly. Closest was streaming over Bluetooth but audio quality was poor and short range. I will finally have what I was looking for. Everything arrives tomorrow thanks to Prime. Ready.

AirPlay is so awesome! Man is it badass to sit out back and play Spotify and stuff right from your iPad. Both of our iPads easily connect to the Yamaha receiver to stream, as well as control it such as audio, zones, sources, etc. And 1 iPad can see the song info and album art and such that the other iPad is sourcing to the Yamaha. You can even skip forward or back from the iPad that is not the source! Sitting out back and taking turns sourcing, and even have control over the other is very very nice.

I seriously haven't been that impressed in quite some time. I can easily see why people keep on buying Apple products. They really do just work.

Exactly, little fuss and they do what they're suppose to.

On a side note I have my Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 and I like them a lot. The Nexus 7 should be the standard for a 7" tablet. Well built and speedy, works really well. No issues so far. Vanilla jelly bean works very well, the smoothest iteration of Android to date. Actually I'm typing this on my galaxy nexus and it the dolphin browser works better then safari browser on iOS for this.

I'd love to see an ubuntu version. otherwise my next phone will be a windows based phone.
