Weird Search Tab showing in Firefox

I did d/l some things today, and now when I launch FF, I am seeing an extra tab where looks like search engine, but it's google and yet on right in orange it has the "Search". I looked into Add-ons, add/remove programs, etc and cannot find it.

I was wondering how I can insert a snapshot here so you see what I see.

    Thanks!

Try clicking VIEW->Toolbar and see if you see an option to uncheck it.

Thanks for the idea, but I had someone uncheck all the toolbars and it still appeared. It's also not in add/remove programs.

I ran Malwarebytes and it found something, but it did not resolve the problem. Also ran SuperAntiSpyware. No help.

Any other ideas? How about Hijack this?

So, I uninstalled and re-installed FF and this resolved my problem.

However, now whenever I open a new tab, I am getting a page that shows recent browsing websites I had visited. I did go to Tools, Options have my home page as a blank page and that is what I want each time I open a new tab.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

It's a "feature" of the new version of firefox. If you click on the little 9-boxes icon in the upper righthand corner of a new tab (says "hide the new tab page" when you mouse over it), it'll make the previews go away (but the icon will stay).

I'm not sure if there is a way to disable it altogether.

Thanks, that did the trick. I did some research on this and some of those previews can be very risky especially when one uses remote banking. One person's bank preview showed account numbers, name, address, the whole statement. I wish I could find a way to be rid of the previews, not just hide them.

Anyone else know of a solution? Or would you suggest using IE when going to a site which shows my real name or shows passwords or anything that I do not want others to see?

kp, I appreciate your response, but can I do some searching on my own? I wouldn't know what it is even called.
