The Mechromancer looks really fun. I might do a playthrough with her before doing a NG+ with Zer0.

I played Mordecai in the original so having a 'pet' seems like it would be fun, but actually Anarchy looks a lot more broken. With 400 stacks of +1.75% damage and the ricochet ability, who cares that your accuracy is 0%? Even if every bullet misses, the ricochet will still constantly hit for 2x base DPS. Add the firing speed buffs and it might become quite ridiculous.

What I'm kind of disappointed by so far is that the general mid to lategame strategy seems to be to just use your strongest corrosive weapon all the time (except if you're playing in a group, in which case one player has to go for slag). I would have hoped for more variance.

I love the Commando. The whole turret thing I still dig. I can run through an area, drop my turret, and keep moving while racking up experience. Makes repeated slogs through the same area (A hazard of my on again off again play style) not nearly so bad.
    • I'm playing Gunzerker with a friend, just for the ammo regen aspect. Unlike the first game, Gunzerker is the only class with ammo regen.
    • I'm looking forward to trying the mecromancer.
    • I've picked up 2 golden keys from twitter posts as well. I'm saving them because I figure I will use them when I get to a higher level.

I can't seem to figure out how to get mecromancer on my account. The title page of the game says it's a free download, Steam wants $9.99 for it.

If you preordered the game you should already have it. Just start the game and Gaige should be selectable.

It seems that whatever unlock is needed to make her available has not yet happened. Upon trying to launch the game again I get a steam prompt saying "completing installation" followed by a timeout due to the servers being too busy. Guess my neck of the woods just got the update and everyone is hammering the servers.

*Edit: 5th try is the charm. Finally updated and launched the game. I now have a mecromancer.

My Xbox copy came with a little card that had the unlock code written on it. I didn't even preorder the game, I bought it like 2 weeks after release from a local store.

I didn't find that, yes the corrosive weapons are good against the numerous loaders but they're not so good against shielded enemies which there are plenty of. I find myself using a much wider variety of weapons than in the first game, at the moment a corrosive sniper, a very high power normal rifle, an electric rifle and a normal shotgun to catch enemies who get close.

I really like the turret as well, it's also handy to dump in the middle of battle and quickly duck into cover and let the turret divert attention from me while I snipe off the few enemies the turret hasn't ripped apart. I have mainly put my skill points into it going a bit down the left tree and now down the right, currently working on reducing its cooldown on the way to get the two separate turrets. I was initially disappointed that the commando doesn't get ammo regen as in the first game my strategy was mainly to go for very fast firing weapons which combined the skill to increase fire rate on kills meant I could just hose things down with my co-op partner sitting back with the sniper rifle. This time without a co-op person I need to stay further back so the sniper rifle works better for me, there's not quite the same need to regen ammo but still even with all the SDU's I seem to run out of ammo very quickly at times.

How do the keys from Twitter work?

The keys from twitter are time-related. If you do not put in the code within a certain amount of time it is released they do not work anymore. I think it's only a few hours that they are good for.

Kamakazie had a good point on leveling up in Borderlands vs. other FPS's like CoD. But it made me think back to something that I wanted to ask.

Anyone else notice there are definite "plateaus" of difficulty in the game?

For example, in my first playthrough, I noticed that twice I got into a new area and was just destroyed. Could barely do damage with the weapons that were owning in previous areas. Damage dealt by enemies was much MUCH higher than the previous ones were dealing. After finding some guns in the new area (and getting the single level up needed to use them), suddenly it was the same as it was previously. I.e. As long as I played smart, I survived.

I noticed this in Lynchwood, and again in the Eridium Blight. It might have happened before that too, but I wasn't as aware of it then. (Assuming it was just me getting used to the new game.)

I get that every now and then. If a quick weapon change doesn't work (which typically works 90% of the time), I usually just have to grind to the next level and everything becomes easy again.

I find grinding with rockets works well.
